LCG Auctions has completed bidding for an original iPhone model in unopened original packaging. The rare gadget cost the new owner a tidy sum – and not only because of the venerable age of the device.
The starting price of an iPhone with 4 GB of internal memory was $10,000, and it went under the hammer for $130,027. For comparison, at the start of sales in 2007, this version of the smartphone cost $499, and the 8-GB version cost $599.
According to the seller, it is the younger model that is valued among collectors. The fact is that 14 years ago, buyers preferred to pay $100 extra and purchase the 8 GB version. Therefore, Apple discontinued the basic modification already in the third month after the start of sales, and now it is difficult to find this gadget in good condition.
It is worth noting that the transaction amount for such a lot was not a record: previously, a similar device was sold at auction for $190,373.
