As part of the GTC 2024 conference, Samsung presented GDDR7 video memory. It is aimed at the gaming segment and, most likely, will soon appear on the market as part of the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series video cards.
Branded chips with a capacity of 2 GB have an operating voltage of 1.1 V. According to Samsung, compared to GDDR6, the energy efficiency of video memory has increased by 20%, and it will heat up almost 70% less. Modules on FBGA chips with 266 pins will be available in configurations with a maximum throughput of 28 Gbit/s and 32 Gbit/s.
It is expected that the first on the market to receive GDDR7 memory will be the new NVIDIA 50-series flagships, the release of which may take place this year. According to the specification, the maximum VRAM capacity of new products can theoretically be up to 32 GB with a 512-bit bus. There is no information yet about equipping Radeon video cards with high-speed chips.
