The new products are aimed at use in wireless headphones in the middle and premium price segments. Both chips promise to improve sound quality, ANC functionality and reduce power consumption through the use of AI algorithms.
The Snapdragon S5 Gen 3 model is designed for premium headphones. The audio chip is equipped with a built-in neural processor, which should improve the processing of AI tasks. Among the characteristics of the new product, the manufacturer highlights support for a number of aptX codec and Bluetooth LE technology, as well as low power consumption.
According to the company, the processing power of the Snapdragon S5 Gen 3 has doubled compared to the previous model in the series. The new product copes better with voice recognition, spatial sound, equalizer settings and noise reduction.
Qualcomm S3 Gen 3 is aimed at mid-range audio devices. Its distinguishing features compared to the previous generation are reduced power consumption, as well as smoother software updates.
Updated DAC chips within the chip provide support for lossless music streaming at resolutions up to 24-bit/48 kHz at an affordable end-product price.
Both new products also upgraded ANC technology using machine learning algorithms. In addition, they support up to 5 MB of RAM versus 2.64 MB for the previous generation chips. Increasing memory should provide lower latency and higher throughput.
It is still unknown which devices will be the first to receive the new Snapdragon S3 Gen 3 and S5 Gen 3.
