The American software maker, who left the Russian market back in 2022, issued an official statement about the cessation of proprietary software in the region. The RBC publication explained what this means for domestic companies and what alternatives to the “canceled” services they can use.
In addition to the well-known CAD system AutoCAD, the “black list” included such software packages as Autodesk 3ds Max for 3D modeling and the Autodesk Revit software package for the design and concepts of building structures. The company sent corresponding letters to its partners.
Executive Director of ARPP Domestic Software Renat Lashin said that in construction design on the Russian market the share of Autodesk software ranged from 80% to 90% , in mechanical engineering – no more than 50%. At the same time, according to him, most domestic products support full compatibility of the drawing file format, a similar set of commands, as well as a graphical and program interface.
Deputy General Director of SeaSoft Development JSC Mikhail Bocharov noted that Russian companies may try to buy “broken” versions of the required applications, but the latter will create a threat to information security due to the constant exchange of data with the developer’s server.
The top manager of the ASCON-Integration company (engineering software developer) Dmitry Demin also commented on the situation. He claims that today Autodesk applications are practically not used in the industrial sector, and the transition to Russian solutions is going “well from both the technical and organizational sides.”
