World of Warcraft has been one of the most iconic and long-lived MMORPGs for many years. Over two decades, the developers have improved the graphics in the game, but not as dramatically as one of the fans.
A craftsman under the nickname Voolcan decided to imagine what WoW could look like if it were created on the Unreal Engine 5. For his experiment, he recreated the introductory cutscene of the orcs, enhancing the character models, the environment, and the lighting. In addition to UE5, the fan used Cinema 4D, Substance Painter, as well as DaVinci Resolve and Nuke. In total, the work took him about five months.
The original World of Warcraft was released in 2004, and in 2019, Blizzard released a “classic” version of the game. Against the backdrop of declining sales figures and gamer engagement, the studio decided to begin “reimagining” the MMORPG and released a limited-time “battle royale” mode.
