NVIDIA “saved” rendering units in GeForce RTX 5080

Must Read

NVIDIA recently acknowledged a manufacturing defect in the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5090 graphics cards with missing ROP units — but as it turns out, that’s not the end of the story. One Reddit user found the same defect in the RTX 5080 he bought, which the company didn’t even mention in its report.

As evidence, the “victim” published a screenshot with GPU-Z utility data. According to the source, the card has 104 rendering units instead of the required 112 declared by the manufacturer. There are no official comments from the company on this matter yet. Other users advised the owner of the problematic model to return it to the seller.

NVIDIA previously acknowledged that some GeForce RTX 5090, RTX 5090D, and RTX 5070 Ti units have 8 fewer ROPs than their specs state. According to the official statement, this could result in an average 4% loss in graphics performance, although some tests have shown as much as 11% drops.

The company has already recommended returning the problematic video card if such a defect is detected, but has not yet officially acknowledged the defect of the RTX 5080 model.
