LTS versions of Ubuntu have become real “long-livers”

Canonical announced an increase in support for LTS releases of the Ubuntu operating system. They will truly become record holders in terms of “longevity” – and almost everyone will be able to take advantage of this option.

According to the company , LTS builds of the proprietary OS will now be supported for 12 years from the release date. Thus, Ubuntu 14.04, which according to the old rules expired in a month, will continue to receive security updates until 2026. And build 24.04, which will be released in April, will remain relevant until 2036.

Maximum support cycle is only available to users with an Ubuntu Pro subscription. For non-commercial use, you can connect it for free with a limit of 5 workstations per account. Without appropriate registration, updates for current LTS builds of Ubuntu will only be available for five years from the date of their release.
