An enthusiast under the nickname Dakkaron has adapted the BlackBerry Q10 keyboard for comfortable use with Fairphone 4 and Samsung Galaxy A54. He demonstrated how it works and posted detailed instructions online on how to adapt the unusual adapter to gadgets from other brands.
To equip a modern smartphone with a physical keyboard, you will need a custom-made circuit board, a Blackberry Q10 keyboard (available on marketplaces) and a 3D-printed adapter case. All the necessary instructions are in the enthusiast’s repository on GitHub .
Once assembled, the keyboard connects to the smartphone via the charging port, rather than via Bluetooth, so it does not require a separate battery. The idea itself has been around for a long time, but a few days ago Dakkaron updated the repository and added dual-zone backlighting, reduced the size of the board and the case itself, and also created presets for printing ready-made adapters for Fairphone 4 and Samsung Galaxy A54.
