AAAAA game. The authors of the mobile Monopoly Go! spent $500 million on marketing

The success of the mobile market has long brought large game publishers into a state of nervous excitement. It turns out that the budgets of some projects are ahead of AAA. True, they go for advertising.

Monopoly Go

A couple of months ago we reported on the financial success of Monopoly Go! – the game brought the creators four million dollars daily, and in the first month it earned $130 million. It turns out that this success was the result of an incredible marketing budget. Harev Ferreira, head of the Scopely studio responsible for the project, said that $500 million was spent on promoting the game. And this does not include development money.

The amount is absolutely insane: it would be enough to create three or four full-fledged AAA titles. A comparison with Cyberpunk 2077, one of the main hits of recent years, will tell more: CD Projekt RED spent about $440 million on the creation and correction of the game, as well as the development of the Phantom Liberty add-on and marketing needs. By the way, the same Ferreira shared new achievements of Monopoly Go! — now the game brings authors $200 million a month, to the envy of EA, Ubisoft and other large publishers, and total earnings have exceeded two billion.
