He explained in detail that the Omicron variant is the reason for the increasing cases of Kovid across the world at this time. He said, ‘These variants had no effect on India. We have been seeing these variants since the beginning of the year but they have not had that serious impact on us. He said that we do not need to worry about the Omicron variant.

India should be careful but there is no need for mandatory restrictions here. He said, ‘There is no need for random testing either. India needs targeted testing at this time. Test only those who show symptoms of Kovid-19. For this, genome sequencing is needed, not random testing.

Vaccination should be started in every hospital and clinic

He said, ‘Now the time has come that instead of imposing restrictions, vaccination should be started in every hospital and clinic and the vaccine should be made available. Still the vaccine is available only for special hospitals. Not available to all physicians. Instead of wasting millions of vaccines, supply should be started for all medical institutes.

At this time we are not unaware of the virus. It is always good to be prepared but India only needs to take basic precautions against the virus. He said, ‘The elderly should be more careful. It is advised to wear a mask, but there is no need for the government to issue a decree for this.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will hold a meeting with health ministers of states and union territories today regarding the increasing cases of Kovid-19 in some parts of the world. Mandaviya made a statement in the Rajya Sabha taking suo moto cognizance of India’s preparations. He said, ‘We are constantly monitoring the situation. There is no direct flight between China and India, but people come to India through other routes.

He said that the focus is on ensuring that no unknown variant of the virus enters India and at the same time there is no barrier to travel.
