Pediatric surgery: Every year on 29 December around the world Pediatric Surgery Day is celebrated as Newborn babies, children to teenagers are treated with this surgery. Children’s diseases mainly related to gastrointestinal, urological system and thoracic system are treated through surgery. Children have many types of problems. They are treated through pediatric surgery.

Dr. Prashant Jain, Department of Pediatric Surgery, BLK-Max Superspeciality Hospital explains that congenital problems are very common in children. The lives of children can be at risk if not diagnosed and treated on time, though the diseases can be treated through surgical procedures. But unfortunately children from low income group are deprived of surgical treatment due to lack of facilities and they die. December 29 is celebrated as Pediatric Surgery Day to make people aware about the safe surgical options for their children.

There has been a lot of improvement in pediatric surgery

According to Dr. Prashant Jain, with the advancement in techniques, there has been a lot of development in the field of pediatric surgery. Various medical specialties like Neonatology, Pediatric Intensive Care, Pediatric Nephrology, Pediatric Gastroenterology etc. have also contributed significantly in this. Advances in minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopic surgery and robotic-assisted surgery over the past two to three decades have further revolutionized its management. Surgical patient and is gradually replacing open surgery with larger incisions. Now many problems of newborn children can be solved through surgery.

There are many types of pediatric surgery. These also include cardiac pediatric surgery. Pediatric cardiac surgery is performed if the child has problems related to the heart at the time of birth. Open heart surgery is also done for children.
