It turned out that the key fobs of several Honda models have a vulnerability that could allow hackers to break into and steal cars.
According to security researchers, hackers are able to unlock and remotely start almost all Honda models. The attack was called RollingPWN. Experts explained that the vulnerability allows anyone to open a car door or even start the engine from a great distance. In some cases, the available distance is 30 meters.
In the videos, the researchers showed how the attack is carried out by unlocking various models of Honda vehicles using a device connected to a laptop. The specialists also went to a Honda dealership to test the attack on different models and found that 10 of them were vulnerable. This led them to think that all Honda models from 2012 to 2022 are vulnerable to attack.
