English football club Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo has decided to leave the team with immediate effect. The club gave this information in a statement on Tuesday (22 November). Ronaldo faced severe criticism for his recent interview with British journalist Piers Morgan. Since the interview itself, it was said that he would not play any further for the club.
In the interview, Ronaldo criticized the club on several issues. He also alleged that some people in the club were trying to ‘force him out’. Ronaldo also said that he was betrayed by the club and manager Erik ten Haag. He has no respect for Erik Ten Haag.
What did Manchester United say?
In its statement, Manchester United said, “Cristiano Ronaldo is leaving Manchester United by mutual agreement with immediate effect.” The club thanked him for his immense contribution during his two spells at Old Trafford. Ronaldo scored 145 goals for the team in 346 matches. Best wishes to him and his family for the future.
“Everyone at Manchester United is focused on continuing the team’s progress under the coaching of Erik ten Haag and working together to drive success on the pitch,” the club added.
Ronaldo was not getting a chance to play
Ronaldo did not get a chance to play in many matches of the club this season. He was not even included in the starting XI. He came on as a substitute in several matches. Ronaldo was also not named in the squad against Fulham. The team won the match 2-1. In an interview given to famous journalist Piers Morgan, Ronaldo revealed many things and vented his anger. Ronaldo joined the club in 2021 after 12 years. He left Manchester United in 2009. After this he went to Spain’s famous club Real Madrid. From there he again played for the Italian club Yuventus.
