Corona’s Omicron sub-variant BF.7 is believed to be responsible for the uncontrollable cases of Kovid in China. So far three cases have been reported in India. The question is how dangerous is this virus causing havoc in China and will it prove equally dangerous in India?

According to a BBC report, whenever a virus mutates, it starts a new category (lineage) or sub-category. BF.7 is not a very new virus, but it is the BA.5.2.1.7 that came earlier. BF.7 was mutated from the subvariant BF.5 of Omicron.

According to a study published in the science journal Cell Host and Microbe, BF.7 has been described as four times more resistant virus than its original variant. This means that the ability of a vaccinated person to destroy BF.7 is very low. According to the study, the capacity of infection in this variant is said to be strong. It is believed that due to this subvariant, the crisis in China is deepening.

It is being told that this subvariant can also infect already infected people or vaccinated people. Apart from China, cases of this subvariant have also come in countries like America, Britain, Germany, France, Denmark and Belgium. In October, BF.7 accounted for 5 percent of the total infections in the US, while the UK had 7.26 percent.

Most of the cases of corona that were found in January 2022 were BA.1 and BA.2 subvariants of Omicron. After this, subvariants like BA.4 and BA.5 also came but like European countries, they could not dominate in India. In a meeting with Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday, experts said that the cases of this sub-variant have not increased in the country yet, but there is a need to increase caution.
