Young Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigey pulled off a stunning win over ‘speed game’ specialist Quang Liem Li but compatriot R Praggnanandh suffered a loss to world number one Magnus Carlsen in the Meltwater Champions Tour Finals here on Sunday. Erigey moved up to fourth with this 2.5-0.5 win over his Vietnamese opponent, while Pragananand slipped to seventh after the sixth round. There is only one round left in the tournament.

Carlsen defeated the 17-year-old Grandmaster from India 2.5-0.5 to win the Tour Finals with a round to spare. The Norwegian superstar has 17 points and is a full five points ahead of the rest of the players. America’s Wesley So beat Poland’s GM Jan Kristof Dud 3-0 to move to second place in the points table with 12 points.

erigei has nine digits. In the other match of the day, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan beat Anish Giri of Netherlands 2.5-0.5. Mamedyarov and Giri are ranked sixth and eighth respectively.
